Ranchi: Chief Minister Raghubar Das has said that Jharkhand does not lack talents in the arena in sports.
To produce more talents the State Government will soon set up Sports Academy and Sports University in Jharkhand. The CM was addressing the 15th All India Police Lawn Tennis Championship Tournament at Khelgaon here today. He said that sports help build character and instill discipline and team spirit in the sportspersons.
The national level police lawn tennis championship is being held for the first time in Jharkhand. The CM said that the tournament would give a platform to national level players from 22 teams. Jharkhand will witness 101 gazetted officers of the department vying for the top slot in the tournament, he said.
Das further said that police personnel had to face new challenges and stress while rendering their official responsibilities. Despite the fact a good number of ace players from the department have proved their mettle in sports which ought to be appreciated, he said.
The CM went on add that Jharkhand is endowed with rich natural resources and there is no dearth of talented sportspersons in the State.
MS Dhoni, Aruna Mishra, Jhanu Hansda and others had made the State proud. Facilities should also be extended to other budding players so that they too can achieve greater heights in sports. For this the State Government is going to set up Sports Academy and Sports University in Jharkhand, the CM said.
On the occasion the DGP DK Pandey said that players from 15 States and six other teams were participating in the championship. It will put Jharkhand on national map, he said. The 14th police lawn tennis tournament was held at Chandigarh.
