Jamshedpur: The Workers College unit of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) is advocating for the reopening of the Chancellor Portal to facilitate admissions to Post Graduate (PG) courses at Kolhan University. In pursuit of this demand, a delegation from ABVP met with Dr. Satyapriya Mahalik, the Principal of Jamshedpur Workers College, and submitted a formal request letter to the Director of Students’ Welfare (DSW) at the university on Thursday.
The ABVP, through the letter, highlighted the challenges faced by students applying for admission to PG programs (M.Sc/M.Com/MA) and urged the prompt reopening of the Chancellor Portal. Emphasizing the high number of applications received, ABVP proposed increasing the seats in subjects facing a shortage.
Specifically, ABVP drew attention to the limited availability of postgraduate studies in Geography, which are exclusively offered at Workers College. Given the demand for these programs, students from colleges spanning Baharagora to Jamshedpur pursue postgraduate studies at Workers College. Despite the popularity of the Geography program, the college’s 120-seat capacity has left numerous students anxious about securing admission.
ABVP expressed concern that Kolhan University has not taken steps to introduce Geography studies in other colleges and has not initiated efforts to augment the seat capacity at Workers College. The demand letter also highlighted the appointment of permanent teachers in other colleges offering Geography, emphasizing the need for a comprehensive approach to address the existing challenges.
The delegation presenting the demand letter included members such as Bapan Ghosh, Yuvraj Kumar, Anu Kumari, Samrit Kumari, Reena Kumari, Preeti Ghosh, and others.
