Jamshedpur, Feb 14: The biggest problem which the Steel city is facing today
is of traffic. The growing population, shrinking roads, expanding Tata Steel company, every year increase in the number of vehicles on the roads have put an eclipse to the green and beautiful city. In the last seven years thousands of people have lost their lives and some of them who were the lone bread earners of their family. The accidents were happening and the district administration, corporate and state government were least bothered about it, said Abhay Singh, Union Secretary of Jharkhand Vikash Morcha addressing a press conference on
Friday, Feb 14.
After Singh demanded list of people who had lost their lives in road accident through Right to
Information Act 2005 from district administration and the list which district transport department issued that the maximum people who had lost their lives were from the middle
class family or were the daily commuters, said Singh.
“After getting no response by submitting the list I finally decided to file a PIL at Jharkhand High Court whose PIL no is WPPIL/7784@2013 Abhay Singh vs State of Jharkhand, added Singh.
Singh submitted a Plea to Jharkhand High Court where he mentioned that the population of
Jamshedpur has increased 5 % in the last 10 years. Tata Steel has increased its production capacity from 1 million tons to the current 10 million tons. Company expanded but the city roads kept on shrinking. More than 10000 vehicles pass through the densely populated region of the city daily.
As No Entry opens there is a sense of insecurity among the citizens. The number of road accidents that Jamshedpur has seen is much more as compared to the big cities like Delhi,
Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai. Seeing all these incidents the government of Jharkhand has put a blind eye to all these.
Singh appealed to the high court to take up the matter seriously and help build a flyovers in the city to stop such incidents.
