Tatanagar: Railway “Apathy” under fire, Saryu Roy calls for public protest

Jamshedpur: Jamshedpur West legislator Saryu Roy has sharply criticized the Indian Railways, accusing it of functioning with a “feudal and oppressive mindset” that ignores the plight of common passengers. Taking to social media on Saturday, Roy alleged that the Railways is prioritizing profit over public service, effectively “holding a knife to the throat of passengers” to maximize earnings.
He claimed that passenger trains approaching Tatanagar Junction are often delayed in the final 10–15 km stretch, allegedly due to preference being given to freight trains.
Despite multiple committees operating at divisional and zonal levels, Roy questioned why delays persist for years without resolution.
Highlighting the impact on daily wage earners and commuters, Roy noted that prolonged delays—sometimes stretching up to 4–5 hours—have led to job losses and severe inconvenience, especially for those traveling from nearby areas like Chandil.
Calling for collective action, Roy has urged citizens to participate in a mass protest scheduled on April 7 at 10 AM near Platform No. 1 of Tatanagar Junction.
He emphasized that the demonstration is a public issue, not a political one, and invited participation across party lines.
