Jamshedpur, March 5: “Samjho Toh Express” launched by students of Motilal Nehru Public School (MNPS) on January 23 this year with a view to foster friendship and fraternity across the borders, concluded at the school premises on Saturday.
The campaign which was kick started a month back with a group of Class XI students of Motilal Nehru Public school at an event called the ‘Friendship Junction’ saw a total of 25 pairs comprising belonging to different social backgrounds, beliefs, caste systems and cultures in order to carry out this campaign.
These pairs were encouraged to get to know each other as friends over the period of a month through activities like visiting each other’s religious places, homes, celebrating a festival together and having a meal at each other’s houses.
All this was done with the objective of breaking stereotypes about ‘the other’ and begin a process of appreciating and tolerating views and people different from our own.
According to a press communiqué issued by the school, this campaign brings out the most inspiring stories and examples of our society. In order to conclude and amplify this attempt on communal harmony, the campaign concluded with a “Manzil Junction,” which includes a Picture Gallery walk.
The Picture Gallery is a narrative story developed by the participants; these stories are a depiction of their friendship stories in their own version. This was be followed by the ‘burst your stereotype’ round where participants shared their stereotypes regarding the other and how they overcame it.
The event included a funder’s speech to encourage the youth in their endeavour that they have taken up. In the next activity, the Depth of friendship game, the participant enacted the other’s habit, likes or manners etc. Following a quiz was also conducted.
The event concluded with a cricket match and shared meals among the participants and attendees.
