Jamshedpur, July 2: East Singhbhum district administration along with the forest department celebrated Van Mahotsav at Bara Banki village by planting about 9000 saplings. East Singhbhum deputy commissioner Amit Kumar, Jamshedpur MP Bidyut Baran Mahto, Jugsalai MLA Ramchandra Sahis, Jamshedpur divisional forest officer Saba Alam Ansari and other guests and officials from the administration and forest department were present.
Addressing a gathering after launching a tree plantation drive DC Amit Kumar said: �We want to preserve the environment and Government�s policies are environment friendly. We are happy at the success of the Van Mahotsava campaign through mass participation and would want mass support for this new campaign too.
The idea is to spread the green cover on the banks of Subernarekha under the state’s Nadi and Van Mahotsav that aims to preserve greenery and river Subernarekha.
The East Singhbhum district has set a target of planting more than 1.2 lakh saplings on the 17km stretch of the river passing through the district during the month-long campaign with the help of corporates, and social organisations.
“We want school children to plant at least one tree on their birthdays. It is the government’s wish to create a greener Jharkhand,” said Kumar.
Jamshedpur MP Bidyut Baran Mahto too appreciated the efforts of the state as well as the East Singhbhum district to take up a noble cause during the monsoon.
� Through this initiative we intend to encourage tree plantation and preservation of nature to maintain ecological balance by our communities in areas. Every year we celebrate the occasion on a large scale and this year we are delighted to once again receive a great response. We will continue to undertake such initiatives that will contribute to make our society greener and healthier,� said another official.
