Jamshedpur : Over 2 lakhs residents residing in 86 urban slums on sub-leased land of Tata Steel can look forward to quality piped water supply at their homes.
Tata Steel subsidiary Jusco, the civic amenities provider in Tata Steel command areas, has started supplying water connection forms in different urban slums.
According to company sources, in the first phase, those urban slums would have forms distributed where the Jusco already has its water supply line laid. The forms distribution began from Kanchannagar (near Burmamines).
Over 4,500 connections would be given in the first phase and would take between 7-8 months for completion. After completing the first phase we will start laying supply pipes in other urban slums.
Incidentally, Jusco had already provided nearly 20,000 water connections in some urban slums between 2005 to till date.
As of now Jusco supplies 170 million litres of potable water every day in its command areas in the steel city.
The decision to hold camps for distribution of water connection forms was taken by Jusco following Jharkhand High Court directive last week wherein the court fixed the rate and asked Jusco to provide water to residents of urban slums after checking land records.
