Ranchi, May 21: Twenty two new coronavirus cases were reported in Jharkhand on Friday, May 22 taking the state tally to 330. Eight positives came up from Hazaribagh, seven from Gumla, three each from Ramgarh and Chaibasa while Jamshedpur reported one case on Friday. All the cases in Kolhan are of migrants who have arrived in Jharkhand from other states.
With one more corona positive case reported in Jamshedpur, the city’s total swelled to 17. The latest reported COVID-19 positive case pertains to a Jugsalai lady who had returned from Kolkata on May 16 and kept in the Loyola School quarantine centre from where she was shifted to the one in Kadma. According to reports, the lady along with her husband and children returned to Jamshedpur from Kolkata by road in a private vehicle and straight away went to Loyola School where their swab sample was taken. After they were sent to quarantine centre in Kadma the lady’s test came positive on Friday, May 22 while her husband and child’s report was negative. As the family was in quarantine there is no issues with the virus spreading in the locality or region they lived in.
Her tests proved corona positive and she was shifted to the COVID Ward of Tata Main Hospital (TMH) on Friday, May 22. Now, the Kadma quarantine centre is being sanitized while more tests are being conducted.
As a precaution the lady’s kid and husband is being kept in isolation.
Meanwhile, Chaibasa in West Singhbhum reported three new cases on Friday taking the district tally to 4. Kolhan which comprises of East Singhbhum (17 cases), West Singhbhum (4 cases) and Seraikela-Kharsawan (4 cases) takes the total to 25 positive cases.
Total positives in East Singhbhum now stand at 17. East Singhbhum deputy commissioner, Ravi Shanker Shukla confirmed about the detection of a new case in Jamshedpur.
21 districts out of 24 in the state have been infected with COVID19 with Chatra district being the recent entry in the list. All new samples tested positive are of the migrants and stranded labourers.
Out of 330 positive cases so far, 112 are from Ranchi, 47 from Garhwa, 15 from Bokaro, 15 from Palamau, 17 from Giridih, 5 from Deoghar, 7 from Dhanbad, 15 from Koderma, 41 from Hazaribagh, 17 from East Singhbhum, 4 from Latehar, 2 from Jamtara, 3 from Simdega, 6 from Ramgarh, 2 from Dumka, 10 from Gumla, 2 from Lohardaga, 4 each from Seraikela-Kharsawan and West Singhbhum, one each from Chatra and Godda has also tested positive for coronavirus.
Capital Ranchi accounts for 112 out of a total of 330 Covid cases. The Hindpiri locality in Ranchi is worst affected by the virus. This hotspot area is being manned by the CRPF personnel. Jharkhand has reported three deaths due to coronavirus so far.
The first case of the pandemic was reported from Hindpiri on March 31, when a 22-year-old Malaysian woman, who had been to Delhi�s Tablighi Jamaat congregation, tested positive. She has since been discharged after being recorded from the dreaded disease.
130 migrants who have arrived from other states since May 5 have tested positive for COVID-19.
