7,000 doses to arrive in Jamshedpur, vaccination to resume from Thursday

Jamshedpur, June 1: After a gap of about a week, vaccination drive for the 18-44 years age-group is expected to resume from Thursday. The vaccination drive will start again after a consignment of 7,000 doses of Covaxin is expected to reach here either late on Tuesday night or on Wednesday.

Sharing plans for resumption of the vaccination drive for the 18-44 years age-group, East Singhbhum deputy commissioner, Suraj Kumar said a fresh lot of vaccines is expected to reach here and the slot for the beneficiaries will be allocated soon after the arrival.

“The district administration is facing a shortage of vaccines for the 18-44 years age-group due to short supply of the vaccines. But the administration is making all efforts to procure the vaccines so as to keep the drive for this age-group regular. As of now we are going to get 7,000 doses of Covaxin for resumption of the drive shortly, ” said Kumar.

The deputy commissioner said the vaccination drive for the 45 years and above is going on as per plans.

The vaccination drive for the 18-44 years age-group at the government-run centres has been halted here since last one week, causing anxiety among the aspiring recipients. Moreover, the number of willing persons for this age-group is much greater than the age-group of 45 years and above.

Significantly, for the Tata Steel employees and their dependents, the vaccines are being administered at Loyola School and Dhatkidih Community Center regularly. Whereas those belonging to 45 years and above are getting the vaccines at the Dhatkidih Community Center, the ones belonging to the 18-44 years age-group are getting the vaccines at the Loyola School.

The wastage of Covid vaccines in the East Singhbhum district is 3.5 percent. Though the rate is lower than the national average of 6.3 percent. With vaccines in short supply, more effort is being made curtailing wastage.

In view of the vaccine wastage issue cropped up, about 100 computer operators were given additional training pertaining to data entry for Covid vaccination in the East Singhbhum district.

Known as EAV (Entity Attribute Value) computer operators engaged for carrying out the job of data entry of Covid vaccines had already given training before the vaccination drive started here on February 16, but the additional training was given to them online as a precautionary measure.
