Hazaribagh, Feb 20: A road accident claimed the lives of seven devotees from Hazaribagh, Jharkhand, while they were returning from the Kumbh Mela. The accident occurred in Jaunpur district, Uttar Pradesh, under the Badlapur police station area, when a vehicle carrying 11 devotees lost control, collided with a bus and overturned after crossing the divider.
Six people died on the spot, while five others sustained serious injuries and are undergoing treatment at local hospitals and in Varanasi. The deceased have been identified as Kanti Devi (husband Shambhu Singh), Dhanwa Devi (husband Vanshi Yadav), Matiya Devi (husband Khelavan Singh), Munia Devi (husband late Sohan Yadav), Ranjit Yadav (father Vanshi Yadav) and Keshia Devi (husband Girdhari Yadav). Among them, Dhanwa Devi and her son Ranjit Yadav lost their lives in the accident.
The devotees were on their way back to Hazaribagh after visiting Shri Ram Janmabhoomi in Ayodhya following their Kumbh bath. Upon receiving the news, local police and administration rushed to the spot, transported the injured to the hospital and sent the bodies for postmortem. The cause of the accident is under investigation.
The tragic incident has cast a pall of grief over Hazaribagh, where mourning relatives and locals are being provided with all possible assistance by the administration.
