57 leprosy-affected voters cast votes at special booth in Jamtara

Ranchi: The second phase of Jharkhand Assembly elections witnessed tremendous enthusiasm among voters across 38 constituencies, as citizens turned out in large numbers to participate in the democratic process. The Election Commission of India (ECI) played a pivotal role in ensuring smooth and motivated voting through various initiatives, including the use of loudspeakers to encourage voter turnout.

The atmosphere was festive, with election-themed songs resonating across polling stations, further energizing the voters. A total of 14,219 polling stations were set up for the phase, with special arrangements made to enhance voter convenience and inclusivity. Among these, 239 polling stations were operated exclusively by women officials in areas with a high concentration of female voters. Additionally, 22 polling booths were managed by Divyang (differently-abled) personnel, and 28 were run by young polling officials.

To reflect Jharkhand’s vibrant culture and traditions, 48 polling stations were transformed into unique thematic booths showcasing local paintings, art, and eco-friendly designs. These efforts aimed to make voting a memorable experience for the electorate while highlighting the state’s rich heritage.

In a noteworthy initiative, a separate booth was established in Jamtara town for leprosy-affected voters, marking the first time such a step was taken in the state. At this booth, located in the community building of Snehpur Leprosy Ashram in Mihijam, 57 leprosy-affected voters cast their votes. The auxiliary polling booth provided all necessary facilities, including ramps, wheelchairs, drinking water, and electricity, along with volunteer assistance. Voters expressed appreciation for the inclusive measures that allowed them to participate comfortably in the electoral process.

The second phase of elections reflected the commitment of both the ECI and voters to making democracy accessible and engaging for everyone.
