432 driving licenses suspended in Jamshedpur, Rs 40 lakh fines collected in July

Stricter traffic check, Jamshedpur school vans under surveillance

Jamshedpur, August 30: District level traffic and road safety committee meeting was organized under the chairmanship of district magistrate-cum-deputy commissioner Manjunath Bhajantri at Collectorate Auditorium, Jamshedpur.

In the meeting, review of road accidents, corrective work done on black spots, hit and run cases, road safety awareness campaign among school children, as well as preventive steps to be taken in view of road safety were discussed.

During the review, it was found that a total of 24 road accidents occurred in the month of July, in which 13 people died and 19 people were injured, the main reasons for these accidents were high speed, driving in the wrong direction, not using helmets and overloading.

Not paying attention to drivers and pedestrians is the main reason.

Deputy Commissioner directed the District Transport Officer and Traffic DSP to ensure that all the two-wheeler drivers use helmet compulsorily. Along with this, instructions were given to check whether four wheeler drivers should wear seat belts and follow traffic rules.

In the month of July, action was taken to suspend the driving license of 432 people for violation of traffic rules, while a fine of Rs 40 lakh 37 thousand was collected by the traffic police. In total 39 cases of hit and run, 22 people have been given compensation and 17 cases are under process. A total of two people have been sent to jail as part of the raid against the sale of illegal liquor on Dhaba, a hotel located on the NH/SH side.

The Deputy Commissioner said that triple riding should be discouraged. Along with this, he appealed to the parents to take special care that minor children should not drive vehicles. A joint team of road safety, traffic police was directed to conduct the investigation during school holidays. District Superintendent of Education was directed to conduct awareness campaign in schools regarding road safety.

In heavy vehicles like containers, trucks, buses etc., use of night reflectors, radium at the front and back, was directed. In the cases of drink and drive, it was directed to suspend the license immediately and register an FIR. Strict instructions have been given to all school managements to install nets on the windows of school buses and vans and to ensure that children ride only according to the seats available in the school bus or van.

The District Transport Officer was instructed to regularly check whether the prescribed safety norms are being followed by all the schools or not.

The representatives of the bus association were instructed to ensure that buses are not parked illegally outside the Mango bus stand and passengers are not boarded outside the bus stand. Instructions were given to check illegal car washing centers on Kalimati to Station Road and take action against illegal parking on the highway and inner city roads.

Two Good Samaritans got a check of Rs. 2,000 each: There is a plan to give incentive amount to Good Samaritans for timely taking the people injured in road accidents to the hospital. In this sequence, Good Samaritan Prakash Das and Lakshmi Prasad were encouraged.
