42 job seekers defrauded in Tata Steel Jamshedpur job scam, FIR lodged

Jamshedpur, Sept 5: A job scam in which 42 persons were cheated in the name of employment at Tata Steel has come to light, with incidents occurring between September 20, 2023, and January 14, 2024. The scam involved employees from Tinplate Company and Tinplate Hospital. Tata Steel’s management has taken swift action by filing a named FIR against four individuals at Bistupur police station.

Area Manager of Brand Protection at Tata Steel Headquarters, Dhruvjyoti Saha, lodged the FIR against Shubham Kumar from Bansi, Sonbhadra district, Uttar Pradesh; Mohammad Javed, a Tinplate Hospital employee and resident of Golmuri Tuiladungri; Amarnath Gorai from Sakchi Hume Pipe Road and Arvind Sharma from Bhalubasa Teachers’ Colony. The FIR detailed how the accused defrauded 42 people, provided fake documents, and conducted medical examinations at Tinplate Hospital after accommodating the victims in various hotels. Tata Steel management initiated an investigation upon receiving the complaint. Police have initiated investigation into the matter.

History of job scams in Tata Steel and other companies

Job scams in the name of Tata Steel, Tata Motors, and other companies have been recurring issues. Similar cases have been registered in the past, including one at Bistupur police station. In 2016, an FIR was lodged at Telco police station for fraud related to job placements at Tata Motors and other companies. In September 2019, 52 people were defrauded in a job scam at Tata Steel in Noamundi, West Singhbhum. Additionally, in September 2019, the police arrested Jyoti Singh alias Vicky for duping people under the pretext of securing jobs at Tata Steel, leading to his imprisonment.
