Jamshedpur, Dec 1:Vijay Anand Moonka, Regional Vice President (Kolhan) of the Federation of Jharkhand Chamber of Commerce and Industries, has written to Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren urging swift action on the long-pending Dhalbhumgarh Airport project.
He has also proposed that the upcoming airport be named Dishom Guru Shibu Soren International Airport as a true tribute to the revered tribal leader.
Moonka emphasized that despite Jamshedpur being over a century old and recognized nationwide as the prestigious Steel City, as well as the economic capital and industrial hub of Jharkhand, the city still lacks a functional airport.
Thousands of large, medium, and small industries operate in and around Jamshedpur, yet the absence of air connectivity continues to hinder growth, he said.
According to Moonka, students, patients, and general passengers are forced to travel to Ranchi or Kolkata to board flights—resulting in inconvenience, delays, and increased travel time.
He stressed that the lack of an airport has stalled the region’s overall progress and restricted new investments.
The foundation stone for the Dhalbhumgarh Airport was laid in 2018–19, but little progress has been made since. Moonka expressed confidence that under the leadership of an “energetic and development-oriented” Chief Minister, the long-awaited airport project could finally move forward.
He added that establishing the airport would be a “boon” for Jamshedpur and surrounding districts, opening new avenues for industrial and economic expansion and shaping a new trajectory for a developed Jharkhand.
