Jamshedpur : A 30-year-old woman Shanti Mishra jumped into a well under Govindpur police station area in the wee hours to end her life. Sources went on to inform that Shanti was mentally-ill for the past one year. The neighbours tried to rescue the woman but by the time she was fished out of the well, she was already dead.
Officer-in-charge, Govindpur police station, Ratnesh Thakur confirmed that the woman died of drowning in the well. Both the bodies were sent MGM Medical College and Hospital for autopsy.
Wife of R P Mishra, Shanti was mentally-ill for the past one year. According to local sources, the woman had sat on the wall of the well since 11 pm last night, and at about 1 am, she jumped into the well. The neighbours tried to rescue the woman but by the time she was fished out of the well, she was already dead.
Mahavir Ram, a key functionary of Jeevan, a local outfit set up for preventing suicidal incidents in the city said that there is no fixed pattern of suicide as several factors leads a person to commit suicide.
But recently there has been a spurt in the suicidal cases in the city,” said Ram, adding that the media should also refrain from covering the news of suicide as the people get affected by going through the suicidal news.
