Jamshedpur, May 22: In a tragic mishap, three women were killed on the spot as boundary wall of a high school collapsed on them following heavy downpour at Kashidih under Sakchi thana area on Monday evening. The mishap took place at the Kashidih High School in Sakchi .
Those killed were vegetable vendors and had taken shelter under the boundary wall which collapsed on them. Bodies of three of the victims, all about 40 years of age, were recovered by the local residents.
The police rushed the victims to the MGM Medical College Hospital’s emergency where they were declared as brought dead.
Sources said the vendors coming from Patamda used to sell vegetables by sitting beside the boundary wall, a practice that the victims had started since the past six months. An eyewitness said five women were sitting along the boundary wall when the rain started following a hailstorm at about 5 pm today.
Two of the vendors had gone to a safer place which in the verandah of a three-storeyed building during the rain, but three others continued to stay near the boundary wall. Soon a tree adjoining to the boundary wall fell and along with the tree had fell about a 20-feet-long stretch of the wall. As the three women were sitting just beside the wall, they were buried under the broken wall.
