Jamshedpur : The police on Sunday arrested a 27-year-old criminal with a loaded pistol from Sakchi market area.The criminal identified as Alok Rajak was wanted in connection with a case of extortion and firing registered with the Sakchi thana on January 28.
A resident of Mango, Alok along with one of his associates had snatched Rs 10,000 from a delivery boy of LPG cylinders at Kashidih under Sakchithana on January 28 evening. Alok and his associate also had fired two shots in the air before asking the victim Rahul Kumar to pay him Rs 5,000 per month as `rangdaari.’
Deputy superintendent of police (city) Animesh Nathani said that the police had arrested Verma within 24 hours, but Alok who was the main accused remained absconding.
“It is an important development in this case. Alok was wanted by police in connection with the January 28 snatching and firing incident, the accused had continued his criminal activity and would threaten the businessmen as well as their staff in Sakchi and Sitaramdera for extorting money,” said the DSP (City).
He said a police team led by officer-in-charge, Sakchithana, Mohan Kumar Sharma nabbed the culprit and on searching they found a loaded pistol from his possession. Nathani said Alok has a criminal record and would operate the criminal act in Bhuiyandih under Sitaramderathana area.
