Jamshedpur, August 17: During a meeting of the District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (Disha) at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office on Saturday, Jamshedpur East MLA Saryu Roy raised serious concerns regarding the performance of the electricity department and the lack of school admissions for BPL category children.

MLA Saryu Roy criticized the electricity department for its unsafe practices, including running power lines on bamboo poles, which he argued increases the risk of accidents. He pointed out that the department’s poor responsiveness and maintenance issues—such as leaning poles and wires touching houses—were major concerns. Roy also expressed frustration over the department’s lack of communication, questioning the utility of their contact numbers if they are not answered.

In addition, Roy questioned the District Education Superintendent about the implementation of the DMFT (District Mineral Foundation Trust) scheme for school infrastructure improvements, noting that none of his recommendations for boundary walls, toilets, and other necessities in 21 schools of his constituency had been addressed.

Roy also highlighted issues with the Right to Education (RTE) Act, specifically the 25 percent reservation for BPL category children in private schools. He reported that many schools were not complying with this provision, citing exemptions granted by the Supreme Court. The District Education Superintendent confirmed that some schools had indeed obtained such exemptions. Roy requested a copy of the Supreme Court order from the Superintendent, which the Deputy Commissioner instructed to be provided promptly.

The Deputy Commissioner assured that public complaints would be addressed and resolved promptly, with updates to be communicated to the concerned representatives.
