Jamshedpur: In a major crackdown on drunken driving following the murder of Himanshu Singh outside DD Bar in Bistupur, the Jamshedpur traffic police launched a special enforcement drive across the city on Monday night, tightening road safety measures and action against traffic violators.
The operation, conducted at major intersections and busy stretches, saw intensive checking of motorists, with police using breath analysers to identify drivers under the influence of alcohol.
100 vehicles checked, 25 drivers booked
During the drive, traffic police inspected around 100 vehicles. Breath analyser tests found 25 motorists driving under the influence of alcohol.
Each violator was fined ₹10,000 under the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, resulting in a total collection of ₹2.5 lakh in penalties during the single-night operation.
Simultaneous checks at key city junctions
According to Traffic DSP Neeraj, the enforcement drive was carried out simultaneously at several major locations, including Bistupur Sai Mandir, Mango Roundabout, Golmuri Chowk, Pandey Ghat and Sakchi.
The objective of the campaign, he said, is to prevent road accidents, improve traffic discipline and ensure the safety of commuters across the city.
Police warn of continued action
Traffic DSP Neeraj said drunken driving poses a serious threat not only to the driver but also to other road users.
He warned that the special enforcement drive would continue on a regular basis and appealed to residents to act responsibly by refraining from driving after consuming alcohol.
The intensified campaign is part of the district police’s broader strategy to strengthen law and order and improve public safety following the recent high-profile murder in Bistupur.
