Jamshedpur, Nov. 7: In a shocking incident, a 24-year-old woman tried to commit suicide by setting herself on fire at her parentís house in Birsanagar Zone No 3 near Vijaya Garden under Birsanagar area this morning.
The woman, Sunita Munda, who is a divorcee, has sustained 80 percent burns and is struggling for her life at the MGM Medical College Hospital’s burn care unit.
The young woman who was staying with her mother after she divorced her husband Bijay Munda a year ago, poured kerosene oil before setting herself on fire.
Sunita’s younger sister, Anita said that her sister was married to Bijay three years ago, but as he would take liquor and would assault her sister regularly, she had tried to adjust. But she had to divorce him a year ago. She said ever since Sunita left her husband, she would stay with her mother’s place.
The doctors posted at the MGM Medical College Hospital’s burn care unit said that the whole body except the face was burnt.
“The patient has sustained about 80 percent burns and has become senseless. The chances of her survival is very little, but still we are trying to save the life of the young woman,” said a doctor on condition of anonymity.
Assistant sub-inspector of police, Ashok Kumar Ram of Birsanagar confirmed about the suicidal attempt by a young woman at Birsanagar.
