Jamshedpur, April 2: State food and civil supplies minister Saryu Rai on Saturday inspected the rationing department and held a meeting with officials of the department and was apprised with the difficulties and working of the department.
Rai also took information from Special rationing officer (SRO) about the current situation of ration cards, new ration cards, how many cards have till date been distributed and how many cards have been cancelled.
He was informed that one lakh eleven thousand new registration from rations cards from the district has been made while 24 thousand ration cards have been cancelled after inspection. Officer informed that ration dealers have been controlled by SDO, SRO and MO, after ration cards are made their scrutiny is being done.
SRO further said that the process of making new ration cards is under process and distribution under food security act will be done by May 2016. In July white ration cards will be made for remaining people.
Minister was also apprised about the coordination between SDO and SRO in the ration distribution. He was also informed that 80-85 ration cards entry is done in one computer in a day.
During inspection it was found that thousands of registration received under food security act have not been opened till date and have been packed inside the sacks.
Though minister didn�t enter the room where sacks were kept and it�s hard to tell if these registered beneficiaries would get ration cards or not but officers were hopeful that all would get ration cards by May.
In Rural areas distribution of kerosene oil from prog will soon be discontinued for forever because after ration cards under national food security schemes are made other remaining people would get white cards.
Through which kerosene oil can be obtained from shops only.
Significantly, the rationing department office is in the second floor of old DC office and the ground floor has Tata Lease office and in front of it there is huge trash presence.
Despite information that minister would be coming for inspection the garbage was not cleaned.
