Jamshedpur/Ranchi, August 8: Six people died of coronavirus in Jharkhand on Saturday, August 8 taking the toll to 160.
Four deaths were reported from Jamshedpur while one corona patient each died of the virus in Koderma and Godda while 926 fresh cases were reported in the state on Saturday taking the state tally to 17468.
822 people recovered and were discharged from various COVID hospital’s across the state. 8325 corona patients have recovered till date in Jharkhand.
The count of coronavirus infected prisoners at Birsa Munda Jail reached triple digits on Saturday as at least 73 more jail inmates were found to be Covid positive, prison officials said. �As many as 105 prisoners at Birsa Munda Jail have been infected by the virus. All of them are in isolation within the jail premises,� said IG, Prison, Birendra Bhushan.
In Jamshedpur the COVID-19 tally has crossed 2700 mark. ����
68 new cases were reported on Saturday, August 8 taking the East Singhbhum tally to 2723.
The district administration spokesperson informed that 68 corona positives have been identified in the East Singhbhum district on Friday.
With two deaths in the city on July four, the bleak tally of the COVID curse exceeded 75 as four more infected patients succumbed during treatment today at Tata Main Hospital. A Kadma Farm Area resident who was admitted to TMH on August 6 with high fever and breathing problem died today in the evening. Md SM Gulzar, the 48 year old leader of National Transport Association and Golmuri resident died of coronavirus infection today afternoon. A 75 year old Kasidih resident who was admitted to the hospital with fever and respiratory problems succumbed to coronavirus infection today. A 74 year old Khuntadih (Sonari) resident who was admitted to TMH for treatment of pneumonia on August 6 was tested positive for COVID. He died today of the infection.
All the positives have been admitted to COVID-19 wards.
Other Jharkhand positive cases were reported from Bokaro12, Chatra 37, Deoghar 13, Dhanbad 53, Dumka 5, East Singhbhum 24, Garhwa 3, Giridih 286, Godda 5, Gumla 16, Hazaribagh 3, Jamtara 4, Khunti 30, Koderma 8, Latehar 16, Pakur 4, Palamu 3, Ramgarh 18, Ranchi 308, Sahebganj 18, Seraikela 30, Simdega 14 and West Singhbhum 16. The state corona tally has climbed to 17468.

The first case of the pandemic was reported from Hindpiri on March 31, when a 22-year-old Malaysian woman, who had been to Delhi�s Tablighi Jamaat congregation, tested positive. She has since been discharged after being recorded from the dreaded disease. The state has imposed lockdown till July 31. Religious places, malls, saloon, spas, schools, colleges will remain closed till July 31.
The Jharkhand government has ordered an extension of lockdown related restrictions in the state outside containment zones, up to August 31, due to COVID-19 cases.
The order will come into effect from August 1. Meanwhile, Jharkhand government issued measures for the implementation of interstate quarantine protocol, to all Additional Chief Secretary, DGP, Principal Secretary, IG and Deputy IG.
The order said that �All economic activities permitted prior to this order shall remain permitted.�
The number of active COVID-19 cases in the state is 8983 and fatalities at 160 while 8325 people have recovered and discharged from the hospital. 2245 corona patients tested positive are migrant workers who returned to Jharkhand after May 1.
