21 day theatre workshop gets underway in Jamshedpur

Jamshedpur, June 10: The Directorate of Cultural Affairs (Tourism, Art-Culture, Sports and Youth Affairs Department), Government of Jharkhand and theatre group, People’s Association for Theatre (PATH) on Friday, June 10, launched a 21 day workshop between June 10 and June 30, for artistes and new aspirants for the most difficult stream of expression, theatre. The workshop will be conducted by popular director and actor, Md Nizam and Chhavi Das and they will be supported by Khurshid Alam and Amir Azhari.  PATH  members said that the workshop on theatre will be an invigorating exercise to ensure that theatre performance does not fade with time.

In a telephonic conversation with Md Nizam, he said, “Theatre activities and presentations were, at one point of time, was the landmark of Jamshedpur’s cultural domain that extended to the entire country. But the this expressive medium gradually lost its sheen and morale of dedicated theatre persons sagged. The only plus point was that there still existed die-hard theatre fanatics who found new ways to keep the light of theatre going. A few theatre units stubbornly kept at it and after the ‘20 year itch,’ things started getting on the tracks. Presently, theatre is being revived by theatre groups by introducing newcomers to theatre in the company of acknowledged theatre persons.)

 This workshop, as a joint initiative of The Directorate of Cultural Affairs (Tourism, Art-Culture, Sports and Youth Affairs Department) of the government of Jharkhand and PATH is aimed at regenerating performing interests in the age group between 15 and 50 years. The workshop will be conducted for five hours from 2 pm at N Road in Bistupur. The newly trained artistes will be selected to perform a play at Ranchi on June 30. Chhavi Das added that the workshop play will be performed in several districts of Jharkhand.
