190 patients to undergo cataract surgery at 574th Mega Eye Camp

Jamshedpur, Jan 5: The inauguration function of the 574th Netra Jyoti Yagna (Mega Eye Camp) organized by the Indian Red Cross Society, East Singhbhum Chapter, in association with Ram Manohar Lohia Seva Sansthan, was held today at Ram Manohar Lohia Seva Sansthan premises, Bagbera.

Speaking as one of the distinguished guests on the occasion, Saryu Roy, MLA, Jamshedpur East said, ‘society�s strength lies in providing help to the needy by the eligible people of the society’.  He further said that though I am not able to participate in many noble and charitable causes in the city organized by various social organizations, I take pleasure in hearing such news.  He also reiterated that one should take inspiration from the deeds of Dr Ram Manohar Lohia and work for the development of weaker sections of the society.  Recalling the humanitarian work done by KK Singh, in whose memory this four-day eye camp is being organized, Saryu Roy extended his best wishes to the doctors, nursing staff, organizers and volunteers for their dedicated work and for the success of the eye camp.

Earlier, Chandan Kumar, SDM, Dhalbhum said, ‘he was very happy to be part of the organization which conducts an eye camp of this magnitude in which more than 300 patients are treated for cataract and other eye ailments as it helps restore vision to affected patients.’

Vikas Singh, Chairperson, KK Foundation Trust and the convenor of this mega eye camp also spoke on the occasion stating he hoped patients with eye ailments will be benefited by this camp and he extended his greetings for the success of the camp.

Dr BP Singh, In-Charge of the operating team of the camp, while speaking on behalf of doctors performing surgery at the camp, doctors enthusiastically perform their duties at the camp just due to the honest work being done by all the volunters and members of Indian Red Cross Society.

While welcoming the illustrious guests to the inaugural event, Bijay Kumar Singh, Hony Secretary, Indian Red Cross Society, East Singhbhum Chapter, enlightened the audience about various activities undertaken the Indian Red Cross Society such as 700 camps in a year like blood donation, eye camps, health camps. 

He further added that the Society conducts Safety Fist Aid Training programmes wherein many young people from eastern part of the country come and get trained.  Singh has expressed his gratitude to the citizens of Jamshedpur who have reposed faith in the organization and also lent their helping hand due to which the society has been able to undertake charitable work in and around Jamshedpur.

After the inaugural function, more than 550 patients were screened for cataract and other eye ailments while 190 patients were shortlisted for cataract surgery which will be performed continuously on 5th and 6th January 2020.

RK Agarwal, noted social worker of Jamshedpur, Bal Mukund Goyal, President, Ram Manohar Lohia Seva Sansthan, Arun Bakrewal, reputed social worker, Shubhenjit Choudhury, MD, Tata Pigments, who were also present at the inaugural function, spoke on the occasion and lauded the efforts being done by the Indian Red Cross Society.
