Jamshedpur: The body of a 17-year-old girl was found hanging from a tree near her house in Kotshol village under Matihana Panchayat in the Baharagora block on Wednesday, leaving villagers stunned and the family devastated.
The deceased has been identified as Jova Mandi, daughter of Gulab Mandi. According to police officials, Jova allegedly took the extreme step by making a noose with her dupatta and hanging herself from a tree close to her residence. The incident came to light early in the morning when family members and villagers noticed her body hanging from the tree.
Chaos prevailed in the village, shocked relatives broke down, while arguments reportedly erupted among family members in the immediate aftermath of the incident. The parents of the girl were inconsolable, and a deep sense of mourning enveloped the entire village.
On receiving information, Baharagora police station officials rushed to the spot along with additional force and took stock of the situation. The police took the body into custody, completed the necessary legal formalities, and sent it to the Ghatshila sub-divisional hospital for post-mortem examination.
The reason behind the girl taking this drastic step remains unknown. No suicide note was recovered from the spot, and family members have so far been unable to provide any clear explanation. Police officials stated that the case is being investigated from all possible angles. Statements of family members, villagers, and acquaintances are being recorded to ascertain the circumstances leading to the incident. Police said the actual cause of death and the sequence of events will become clear only after the post-mortem report is received.
