Five others injured
Jamshedpur : In a major road mishap a 17-year-old girl was killed and five others seriously injured when the auto-rickshaw they were travelling in was hit by a bus at Chilgu on NH 33 under Chandil police station area on Wednesday morning.
One of the victims Sofia Parveen along with others was rushed to MGM Medical College and Hospital, where she was declared as brought dead. The victim was a student of Mango-based JKS College.
Five other injured, including two girls were admitted to the government medical college hospital, where the condition of one of the victims identified as Mohammed Irshad is said to be critical.
Four others were injured who are undergoing treatment at the hospital were identified as Mohammed Chand, Mohammed Babu, Nazia Khatoon and Yasmin Khatoon.
All the five victims sustained multiple injuries in their hands, legs and heads, but the condition of Irshad is very serious. Hospital sources said Irshad has sustained grievous head and internal injuries in the chest.
The mishap took place when five of them, all residents of Azadnagar in Mango, were travelling in an auto-rickshaw to Chandil dam. As the auto-rickshaw was negotiating a turn, the passenger bus that was coming from Ranchi had hit the auto-rickshaw head-on.
Chandil police station’s officer-in-charge, OP Singh confirmed the mishap, and said that the injured have been rescued and sent to the medical college hospital for treatment.
“We are investigating the accident and at present cannot say exactly what led to the mishap. As per initial information the bus was travelling in a high speed and the driver might have hit the auto-rickshaw,” said the police officer.
Singh said that the police have seized the bus. The driver of the auto-rickshaw was also injured, but he was taken to a private nursing-home at Chandil.
Police said the driver of the bus was taken to custody. “At present we are trying to find out about the cause of the mishap,” said a police official of Chandil.
