17 kg polythene seized, Rs 25,000 collected in fine

Jamshedpur: A team of Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee raided several shops across the city and confiscated 17 kg polythene from the possession of shopkeepers. A fine of Rs 25,000 was imposed on those found possessing the banned plastic bags. The team also conducted surprise checking at several prominent shopping centres and stores in SNP Area, Sakchi, and seized a huge amount of non-woven polypropylene bags.

Sanjay Kumar, Special Officer, JNAC, said the non-woven polypropylene bags were also made of plastic and equally harmful for the environment. He said the JNAC has imposed total ban on non-woven bags with effect from 18th June last.
The JNAC team comprised City Managers Ranjan Pandey, Shakil Mehadi and Sonal Singh.
