16-year-old dies post treatment at Jamshedpur’s Dr Abhishek Child Care Hospital

Jamshedpur: A 16-year-old boy, D Sahil, tragically lost his life on Monday after receiving treatment at Doctor Abhishek Child Care Hospital, located in Kashidih Kumhar Para under the Sakchi police station.

The boy’s father, D Karnakaran, has alleged medical negligence, accusing the hospital of failing to provide adequate care.

According to Karnakaran, his son Sahil was brought to the hospital on Thursday with complaints of fever and vomiting. The attending doctors suspected that Sahil might be suffering from dengue and admitted him for treatment. After three days of care, during which the family spent approximately Rs 45,000, Sahil was discharged from the hospital, reportedly showing signs of improvement.

However, on Monday morning, Sahil’s condition deteriorated rapidly. In a state of panic, his father rushed him back to Doctor Abhishek Child Care Hospital. Despite the doctors’ efforts, Sahil’s condition worsened, and he passed away during treatment between 10 and 11 am. The news of Sahil’s death led to a chaotic situation at the hospital, with the grieving family accusing the hospital staff of negligence.

Karnakaran, the bereaved father, alleged that after his son’s death, the family was subjected to mistreatment by the doctor and hospital staff. He claimed that when they tried to speak with Dr. Abhishek regarding the situation, the doctor refused to communicate, eventually fleeing from the scene and switching off his mobile phone. This further aggravated the family’s distress, leading to a confrontation at the hospital.

The family’s accusations have raised serious concerns about the quality of care provided at the hospital and have sparked outrage among the local community. Residents in the area have expressed their sympathy for the grieving family, with many calling for a thorough investigation into the incident.

However, Dr Abhishek, owner of the child care, claimed that the child did not die in hospital during treatment.

“The child was special and bedridden. When he was admitted to the hospital, we found his platelet count was low. He was discharged after his condition improved,” said Dr. Abhishek.

The doctor further added that the child died at home. “The reasons behind his death will be clear only after the postmortem. The child’s parents, along with locals, came demanding the return of medical expenses and compensation,” Dr. Abhishek said.

“After being denied, they called the media and spread rumors that the child died due to negligence,” the doctor added.

A senior police officer stationed at Sitaramdera police station said, “The youth was admitted to the hospital for treatment following ailments. Despite the best efforts of the medical staff, the individual unfortunately passed away.”

The officer added, “We have registered the case and are conducting a detailed investigation to establish the sequence of events leading up to the death. All relevant medical records and witness statements are being examined. We will continue to work closely with the hospital authorities and the family to ensure a transparent investigation.”
