16-year-old boy killed in road mishap

Jamshedpur : Traffic movement came to stand still on the Kandra-Chandil Road for more than three hours today after residents set up a blockade to protest an accidental death at Chainpur village under Chandil police station area. A 16-year-old boy was killed on the spot and another boy was seriously injured as the cycle they were riding was hit by a car at Chainpur.

The mishap victim who died on the spot was identified as Somal Hembrom and the injured has been identified as Sonaram Devgam, both residents of Badalkatha village in Kandra.
According to sources, Somal was a class IX student of government high school in Chainpur and was going to going to school for some official work.

As soon as the mishap took place, several school boys as well as the local villagers gathered at the place. The villagers rushed both the mishap victims to a referral hospital in Chandil where Somal was declared as brought dead.

After the news of the mishap spread, the local residents went frenzied at the four-wheelers and trucks that were passing through the area. The agitated villagers squatted on the road to forcibly stop traffic movement. The residents were demanding the administration to control rash driving by the vehicle operators. The protestors were also demanding adequate compensation to the kin of the deceased.

The blockade was lifted from Kandra-Chandil Road after the sub-divisional police officer, Chandil, Bindu Kumar reached at the spot and assured that the police would help in getting the compensation amount and also promised to take action against the vehicles.

Officer-in-charge, Chandil police station, Manoj Kumar Gupta confirmed that the mishap was caused by a speeding car and said that one of the mishap victims died on the spot.
