Jamshedpur, Nov 20: The Institution of Engineers (India) Jamshedpur Local Centre will be organizing 13th National Creativity Olympiad from 22 to 23 Nov in Steel City.
The Creativity Olympiad is designed to be a hands-on event on Science and Technology. The rules are written such that they may be adapted for use in the average science classroom. The competition will be conducted in two categories: In the first category (Direct domain), a preliminary round of screening is conducted among the teams from local schools by Institution of Engineers, whereas schools from outside Jamshedpur are requested to nominate their best team for participation in the Creativity Olympiad .
Finally more than 20 teams are selected and top 3 teams are chosen for attractive prizes from the sponsors. Participation certificate are given to all the teams. In the second category (Open domain),the schools of Jamshedpur are given a scientific theme for making and building a working model to showcase their creative and originality. This open domain competition is organized under Jr. Category (Students from Std. VI to Std. VIII) and Sr. Category (Students from Std. IX to Std. XII). These models are displayed on the Prize Distribution day and finally two models are adjudged best in each category.
Informing about the event at a press conference on Thursday Amitava Bakshi Chairman of the Centre and Chairman of the Organizing Committee said this year the theme for school students is �Application of Science and Technology, for disaster relief management� . A Model Making contest has also been organized for the students of Polytechnic and Engineering colleges where the challenge is to develop an automatic system. A Module for this Creativity Olympiad has been designed in synchronization with global standards.
This year 24 models are expected for model exhibition for School level namely Jamshedpur Public School Baridih , Kerala Public School Kadma, Srikrishna Public School,DAV Public School Bistupur, DAV Public School NIT, AECS Turamdih , Baridih High School, Loyola School,Vidya Bharati Chinmaya Vidyalaya Telco, Rajendra Vidyalaya, DBMS English School B H Area Kadma, Narbheram Hansraj School Bistupur, Motilal Public School & Jusco School Kadma and four models are from Polytechnic and Engineering Colleges namely B A College of Engineering, RVS College of Engineering, NTTF & Al Kabir Polytechnic.
For direct domain events this year 12 teams from out location belonging to Kanpur, Durgapur, Bhubaneswar, Chakradharpur, Ranchi , Bokaro, Tirupati, Narangi, Guwahati, Dhanbad, Rourkela, Patna and 6 teams from Jamshedpur schools namely DBMS English School, Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Rajendra Vidyalaya, Jamshedpur Public School, Secred Heart Convent School, Motilal Nehru Public School will be participating.
Ranveer Sinha, Managing Director, Tata Hitachi Ltd. will be the chief guest for the Inaugural Function to be held on 22nd November 2014 at IEI Conference hall and M.D ,Tata Steel is likely to be the chief guest for the Valedictory function of National Creativity Olympiad 2014 scheduled at 6.30 PM on 23rd November 2014 at Pandit Madam Mohan Malvia Auditorium , Motilal Nehru Public School , Jamshedpur.
Also present at the press conference was Prabal Patra, Organizing Secretary of the National Creativity Olympiad 2014.
