Jamshedpur, Aug. 1: At least 13 persons were injured, three of them seriously, as the pick-up van they were travelling in overturned at Astha village on Dalma hills under the jurisdiction of Bodam police station area on Monday.
The injured are all residents of Ulyan in Kadma. They were returning home after performing puja at a temple of Lord Shiva atop Dalma hills.
Those injured include three children, including two 10-year-old girls, five women and as many men. They all were rescued by other devotees and brought to MGM Medical College and Hospital emergency, where three of them were admitted as their condition was serious.
Those admitted in the hospital were identified as Manorama Devi (50) Ritesh Kumar (48), and Durua Sahu (45). Ritesh has sustained serious injuries in the chest, whereas two women, Durua and Manorama, sustained head injuries.
According to the victims, the van in which they were travelling was at a moderate speed, while negotiating a sharp turn, the driver lost control, resulting in the vehicle to overturn.
“The van was in slow speed but it overturned toward the left and those sitting on the left side got injured the most as those sitting on the right side had also come over them.
Fortunately, the children had sat on the right side, hence they escaped with minor injuries,” said one of the victims, who escaped with bruises in his left hand.
Officer-in-charge of Bodam police station R Ranjan said they were not aware about any mishap as the victims must have been rescued and sent to the hospital by the passers-by.
He said the victims must have given their statement before the police at the medical college hospital camp police station and after getting the statement the incident will be investigated.
The Shiva temple atop the Dalma hills is about four km away from the foothills and the vehicles have to negotiate sharp turns at some places.
The mishap that took place today is about one kilometer away from the Bodam police station.
