Ranchi: Eleven people have lost their lives in separate accidents amid the ongoing torrential rains in Jharkhand since Saturday. More than two dozen incidents of lightning, current, flowing water, houses collapsing, bridges and culverts washing away have come to light. Rivers, dams and waterfalls are in spate across the state.
The Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for many parts of the state and has predicted that the rains will continue till October 4. At around 3.30 pm on Monday afternoon, a young man who had gone to take bath amid the strong current of Hundru Fall in Ranchi was washed away. The name of the young man is Shubham Kumar, who was a resident of Rajgir, Bihar. He had come here to visit with his five other friends. During this time, despite people’s refusal, he entered the waterfall and was washed away in no time. Efforts to save him failed.
The body of Dev Prasad, a businessman who was washed away in the strong current of a drain in Hatma area of Ranchi city on Sunday evening, was recovered on Monday near Misirgonda, about three kilometers away. Devprasad was crossing the Hatma Saraitand bridge amid the rain, when he lost his balance and fell into the drain and was swept away by the strong current.
Budhram Devgam, resident of Jojogutu village, died due to drowning in Koyna river in Chaibasa. It was told that he was swept away in the strong current while trying to cross the Koyna river near Chhotanagara Shiva temple.
A person named Kuldeep Sao died after getting hit by an electric wire in Mayapur village under Rehla police station area of Palamu district. Kuldeep Sao had left his house and gone towards the fields. During this time, he got hit by an electric wire that had fallen on the ground due to the rain.
On Sunday, four people, including a woman from a family, lost their lives due to lightning in Jamtara. A woman died after a wall collapsed due to rain in Bokaro district. Two girls, residents of Mayapur, Naudiha Bazaar of Palamu, died yesterday after drowning in a pond near the village.
