Jamshedpur, Sept 28: State food and civil supplies minister Saryu Roy inaugurated three Suvidha Kendra outlets to make onions available to citizens at cheaper rates. These outlets are situated in Sonari, Kadma and Mango. A total of 10 such outlets were opened across the city today. The outlets were also opened in Sakchi, Bistupur, Baridih, Sidhgora, Birsanagar and Jugsalai.
Addressing a gathering, Roy said onions would be sold at wholesale rate at all Suvidha Kendras. The rates would be same as in Nasik, he said.
Suvidha Kendras are being opened with the view to make onions available at cheaper rates all over Jharkhand. We are trying to make sure that every block has at least one Suvidha Kendra, Roy said.
Roy said efforts were on to purchase onions from National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India (NAFED). We have asked NAFED to provide onion stocks to Maharashtra markets so that they may be sent to Jharkhand. If it is viable, we will bring it to Jharkhand, he said.
Roy said the onion crisis is only temporary and very soon the situation will become normal.
