Ranchi, May 12: Eleven new COVID-19 cases were reported in Jharkhand on Tuesday, May 12 taking the state tally to 173. Six cases were reported from Hazaribagh, two from East Singhbhum’s Chakulia, and one each from Ranchi, Giridih and Latehar. At the same time, about 3800 labourers, migrants and workers have returned from three special Shramik train that reached Jharkhand today.
Hazaribagh patients are residents of same village and are migrant workers who returned to Mumbai couple of days back. In Ranchi’s Argora a 20-year-old woman has been infected with the deadly virus while Giridih reported another positive case as migrant worker of Gandey block was infected. Giridih resident also returned from Surat two days back. The first case of the day came into light when Green Zone East Singhbhum district was turned into Orange as a CA student and female MNC staff of Chakulia tested Coronavirus positive. Both have returned from West Bengal’s Red Zone Kolkata four days back. Chakulia residents sample were tested at MGM Hospital in Jamshedpur while Giridih migrant’s test was done at PMCH, Dhanbad.
In Giridih five new cases have come up in three days who are migrant workers. They have been admitted to COVID-19 centre.
Earlier on Monday two cases were reported in Jharkhand.
Out of the total 173 positive cases so far, 95 are from Ranchi, 23 from Garhwa, 10 from Bokaro, 8 from Palamau, seven from Giridih, four each from Deoghar and Dhanbad, ten from Hazaribagh, �two each from East Singhbhum, Jamtara, Simdega, Koderma and Dumka. One person from Godda and Latehar has also tested positive for coronavirus.
Capital Ranchi accounts for 95 out of a total of 172 Covid cases. The Hindpiri locality in Ranchi is worst affected by the virus. This hotspot area is being manned by the CRPF personnel.
Jharkhand has reported three deaths due to coronavirus so far. The first case of the pandemic was reported from Hindpiri on March 31, when a 22-year-old Malaysian woman, who had been to Delhi�s Tablighi Jamaat congregation, tested positive. She has since been discharged after being recorded from the dreaded disease.
Ranchi along with Garhwa has been designated as �Red Zone� while nine other districts of Jharkhand are in the �Orange Zone� of novel coronavirus. The rest 14 districts are in the Green Zone.
The Centre has classified districts with high load of coronavirus cases or which have a high growth rate of the disease in the red zones, while those with considerably fewer cases of the respiratory infection fall in orange zones. Districts with no coronavirus cases are categorised as green zones.
