Held under the theme “Play for a Cause,” the tournament aims to foster sportsmanship while raising funds for charitable initiatives that support the underprivileged.

The opening ceremony saw enthusiastic participation from faculty, staff, students, alumni and campus associates. The trophy unveiling officially launched the event, followed by the first match of the season between Security Staff and Maintenance Staff — Eagles vs Panthers.

Addressing the gathering, Dean of Administration and Finance Fr. Donald D’Silva, SJ, emphasised the tournament’s broader mission. “X-FECT is more than a sporting event. It embodies XLRI’s values of service, solidarity and community engagement. The funds raised will directly support charitable works, reminding those who ‘have’ to share with those who ‘do not have,’” he said.

This year, the tournament features 12 men’s teams and 4 women’s teams, bringing together over 240 amateur players from across the XLRI ecosystem. The matches, to be held on weekends and holidays, will progress through league rounds, eliminators, semifinals and culminate in a grand finale. Awards will honour standout performers, including Best Bowler, Best Batsman, Highest Sixes, Player of the Tournament and overall champions.

The inauguration was attended by Jesuit Fathers, the Director of XLRI, faculty, staff and all participating teams. XLRI extended its gratitude to sponsors and supporters for helping strengthen the institution’s vision of sportsmanship with a cause.
