Chandil, Oct 17 : A wild elephant trampled a young man to death in Rasunia village under Chandil police station in Seraikela district on Thursday. The incident occurred when the villagers were trying to chase the Elephant out of a paddy field.
The police have identified the victim as Samal Murmu. According to eyewitnesses, the elephant chased Murmu for about 100 meters before catching up with him and trampling him to death in the field.
Upon receiving the information, forest officer Radha Raman Thakur arrived at the incident site, conducted an investigation and sent the body to Seraikela Sadar Hospital for post-mortem. “The deceased’s family will receive an immediate relief of Rs 50,000 and after the completion of formalities, they will be given an additional Rs 3.5 lakh,” the forest officer said.
