Jamshedpur: In a major boost to Jharkhand’s industrial landscape, Vedanta Limited has prepared a comprehensive and ambitious master plan to revive the long-shut Incab Industries Limited. Under the plan, Vedanta will restart operations at the plant and establish advanced global collaborations with leading international cable technology partners.
Focus on Advanced Electrical Equipment Manufacturing
Moving beyond conventional cable production, Vedanta aims to transform the Incab facility into a hub for advanced, high-capacity electrical equipment manufacturing. As per the master plan, the plant will manufacture high-capacity transformers, state-of-the-art switchgear, and high-voltage cables. This initiative is expected to strengthen India’s power infrastructure and enable large cable and electrical projects to source equipment locally.
Thousands of Employment Opportunities
Once fully operational, the project is expected to generate thousands of direct and indirect jobs for local residents. The modernization drive will open up new employment avenues not only for skilled youth and technical experts but also for former Incab employees who were affected by the plant’s closure.
Local Cable Supply for Jamshedpur Industries
A key feature of Vedanta’s master plan is localized production tailored to the needs of Jamshedpur’s industrial sector. Specialised cables will be manufactured and supplied locally, reducing dependency on external sources. Vedanta will also provide aluminium rods directly from its own facilities, significantly lowering raw material costs. Cutting-edge, next-generation technologies will be adopted to enhance both production capacity and product quality.
Jamshedpur Set for Global Industrial Recognition
Indian Cable Workers Union General Secretary Ramvinod Singh described the initiative as historic for Jamshedpur. He said Vedanta’s investment would help reposition the city firmly on the global industrial map. The project will also strengthen the central government’s Make in India campaign by promoting domestic manufacturing and large-scale employment.
Fully Automated Manufacturing Unit Planned
Vedanta plans to convert the Incab Jamshedpur unit into a fully automated manufacturing centre. Old and obsolete machinery will be removed and replaced with modern, high-end equipment. The company is preparing to issue tenders linked to global technology and mechanical systems as part of the modernization process.
Industry observers believe Vedanta’s master plan will not only breathe new life into Incab Industries but also rejuvenate Jamshedpur’s industrial legacy, positioning the city among India’s leading manufacturing hubs.
