Jamshedpur, Oct 16: Hundreds of Turamdih Uranium Project workers gheraoed Jadugora Labour Union leader Surjit Singh on Wednesday and expressed resentment over the delay in implementation of grade revision for 10 years. They threatened to go on indefinite strike in case the date of payment of arrears is not declared soon.
The agitated workers said two months had elapsed since a consensus was reached between the Uranium Corporation of India Limited (UCIL) management and its four labour unions to implement grade revision for 10 years. They said they had gone on agitation to demand a wage agreement for five years. But later, the grade revision was proposed for 10 years. UCIL CMD CK Asnani had also expressed happiness over the grade revision, the workers said.
Five labour unions to meet tomorrow
UCIL�s five labour unions have convened a meeting on 18th October to hold discussions on the remaining issues pertaining to workers� demands. The meeting would be held at 4 pm. UCIL labour leader Birbal Singh has also been invited to the meeting, sources said.
