Jamshedpur : Uranium Corporation Of India Limited(UCIL) CMD Diwakar Acharya was conferred the IIT Kharagpur �Distinguished Alumni Award� by the, Bharat Ratna awardee and world famous scientist, Dr. C.N.R. Rao who was the chief guest at a glittering function, during the Institute�s Golden Jubilee Celebrations and the 60th convocation, held on 26th July 2014. He was awarded this distinction for his outstanding contributions to the Indian Mining Industry.
Diwakar Acharya is already the recipient of �Life Time Achievement Award� from the Indian Mining & Engineering Journal during its Golden Jubilee celebrations for his life time contribution to hard rock mining and research in India through effective leadership. He is recipient of Gold Award from Greentech Foundation, New Delhi for his outstanding achievement in HR. He has also been awarded �Star PSU CMD� of the year 2013 by Bureaucracy Today.
Under his dynamic leadership and guidance, Uranium Corporation of India Ltd. has bagged several awards in the recent years like the Golden Peacock Award 2013 for CSR, the Greentech HR Silver Award 2013 for Training Excellence, Engineering Excellence Award for R & D project, the Greentech Environment Award � 2013, the Greentech CSR Award � 2012, the National Award for Innovative Training Practices : 2012-13, the National Safety Award (Mines) consecutively from 1993 to 1995 and again from 2008 to 2010, the All India Rescue Awards (Metal) as overall champion in 2011 and 2012.
He treasures the �ISO 14001: 2004�certification obtained by Narwapahar colony, a rare achievement for a mining township. His current interests are in leveraging new communication technologies to improve safety, downtime of large underground equipment and in bringing benefits of the mining industry to the local communities.
In the function which had a galaxy of world renowned Indian technocrats, Wipro chairman Azim Premji was conferred an honorary Doctor of Science degree by the chief guest “for being one of the pioneers of entrepreneurship in modern India�.
