Chaibasa, July 7: West Singhbhum police arrested two Naxalites with arms on Sunday.

Those arrested were identified as Krishna Kerai and Berega Sirka.

Superintendent of Police Indrajeet Mahatha said the Naxalites were arrested from Saranga forests following a joint operation of district police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). Cops recovered a Stengun and one rifle hidden by the two on the information extracted from them, he said.

According to the SP, several cases are lodged against Kerai and Sirka at various police stations across the district. The two were active in Saranda region for the last many days, he said.

Police said Kerai and Sirka had gone to their native village on leave from the banned Maoist organization. Acting on a tip-off about their return, a police team nabbed them and also recovered a motorcycle from their possession.

Kerai was reportedly trying to bring local youths into Maoist fold. He had joined the Maoist outfit in 2015, said the SP.
