Jamshedpur: Steel city has got a new land mark. The clock tower at Triangular Park on the Straight Mile Road at Bistupur was unveiled by Tata Steel MD TV Narendran on Thursday.
The clock tower will indicate time zones of India, London and Singapore apart from being a prominent symbol in the city.
This is the first time in India and probably in the world that such a monument has been erected, said Gyan Taneja, president of Rotary Club of Jamshedpur.
The structure was initiated by Rotary Club of Jamshedpur, Tata Steel and Jusco after India was certified as Polio free and its fight against Polio eradication from the country.
As committed citizens of Jamshedpur, we have been able to get rid of this disease; together we can also make Jamshedpur a city which everyone feels proud of, said a Rotary member.
Rotary Club has joined hands with the campaign and has taken up initiatives to bring about awareness amongst the citizens to keep the town clean, beautiful and healthy. Jamshedpur has got 100 per cent polio vaccination record in the country which every �Jamshedpurian� should be proud of.
A Rotary Club member said the war against polio is broadly over in the world. Rotary recognizes the role of JUSCO especially the Public Health Department of JUSCO, Dr. Bachoo Master, and hundreds of volunteers – both Rotarians and friends who made it possible in East Sighbhum. India was certified as Polio-free nation in March 2014 when no polio cases being reported in the last 3 years.
This is another example of the campaign�s initiative to encourage the stakeholders to take responsibility for our city. The Ashish Mathur, Managing Director, JUSCO, and his senior management such as Ritu Raj Sinha worked to make the impossible happen, added a member.
�We are a world city and so is Tata Steel. To keep up we show times in London and Singapore to signify the reach of Tata Steel. As we see each hour pass we are thankful that polio is no more. To project the ambience of our steel city we decided to design a metal tower in a modern style. We have kept it very simple with plain lines that reach out to the skies.
It will show the times of three nations�ours, the UK and Singapore, where Tata steel has a presence. The time is GPS controlled and has been manufactured in Chennai,� added a member of Rotary Club of Jamshedpur.
On the occasion several Rotary Club members, Tata Steel officials and other dignitaries were present.
