Jamshedpur: Jharkhand is bracing for a fresh bout of severe weather conditions over the next several days, with the Ranchi Meteorological Centre issuing a comprehensive alert for thunderstorms, lightning, gusty winds, and heavy rainfall that will continue through May 28.
According to the latest forecast, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and winds gusting up to 50-60 kmph are expected to affect isolated areas across the state, particularly the north-western and north-central regions, which may also see heavy rainfall. The north-eastern districts are likely to witness stormy conditions as well, though with slightly lower wind speeds of 40-50 kmph.
The weather office has placed almost the entire state, except the north-eastern region, under a warning for thunderstorms and winds ranging from 40-50 kmph. The north-east, too, will experience thunderstorm activity, albeit with winds at 30-40 kmph.
May 25 to May 28: The warning continues with daily forecasts of thunderstorms and lightning across various parts of the state. Winds up to 50 kmph are expected at isolated locations, with possible interruptions to outdoor work and travel.
The turbulent weather is being caused by a trough line extending from a cyclonic circulation situated over Punjab and its neighboring areas, stretching all the way down to central Madhya Pradesh. This trough passes through southern Haryana and is supported by an upper-air cyclonic circulation over northeast Madhya Pradesh and adjoining southeast Uttar Pradesh, at approximately 1.5 km above mean sea level.
In light of the weather alerts, the Met office has issued a public advisory urging residents to: Avoid open fields and tall structures during lightning. Secure loose outdoor objects to prevent damage from high winds. Farmers and outdoor workers are advised to plan activities cautiously, avoiding peak storm hours.
The District Disaster Management Authorities have been alerted, and contingency plans are being reviewed to respond swiftly in case of emergencies caused by adverse weather.
Residents are advised to stay updated via official weather bulletins and take all necessary precautions. With the monsoon season approaching, early awareness and preparation could prove crucial in minimizing risk and ensuring public safety across Jharkhand.
