Thrilling new water sports to start at Jamshedpur’s Burudih Dam and Dimna Lake

Jamshedpur: The District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC) has set sail on an ambitious plan to revolutionize local tourism, with thrilling proposals for boating and water sports activities at key water bodies, including Burudih Dam, Dimna Lake, and Chhota Banki Dam.

The high-stakes DTPC meeting, chaired by Deputy Commissioner Karn Satyarthi at the Collectorate Auditorium, brought together key stakeholders, including MLA Baharagora Samir Mohanty, MLA Potka Sanjib Sardar, DFO Saba Alam Ansari, DDC Nagendra Paswan, and Tourism Officer Rupa Rani Tirkey. The central focus was a multi-pronged strategy to enhance tourism infrastructure and elevate the visitor experience.

The deliberations included a significant push toward adventure and eco-tourism, with the proposal for introducing water sports activities at the three major dams and lakes receiving strong support. This initiative is expected to attract a younger demographic and position the district as a premier adventure destination.

Beyond adventure, the council made major decisions on cultural and spiritual tourism. The Dharmabhal Cluster Chengjoda under Ghatsila Block was officially notified as a Category-D Heritage Village, a move that recognizes its significant cultural and historical value.

Responding to a proposal by MLA Sanjib Sardar, Harina Temple and Rankini Temple are set to be upgraded from Category-C to Category-B tourist sites. A plan for the beautification of the Maa Rankini Siddhapeeth Temple Complex, featuring tribal-themed carvings and paintings on flyover pillars, was also discussed as part of an effort to preserve indigenous art and boost cultural appeal.

Infrastructure development was a key theme, with the council exploring the construction of approach roads to both Burudih Dam and Chhota Banki Dam. Further beautification work is also planned for Pahar Bhanga and Kaleshwar Temple in Potka Block.

To streamline management, the formation of a dedicated Tourism Management Committee was proposed. The council also committed to installing clearer signage boards at major tourist spots to improve accessibility and to identifying and notifying new potential tourist sites to diversify the district’s offerings.

The meeting concluded with a collective sense of purpose, signaling a unified commitment among officials and representatives to transform the district into a sustainable and vibrant tourism hub. The proposed water sports are seen as a flagship initiative that could dramatically change the face of tourism in the region.

To ensure better upkeep and management of tourist spots, the meeting proposed the formation of a Tourism Management Committee. The council further resolved to identify and notify new potential tourist locations across the district to expand its tourism portfolio.

The DTPC meeting concluded on a positive and proactive note, reflecting the shared commitment of public representatives and officials to transform East Singhbhum into a vibrant, inclusive, and sustainable tourism hub.
