Teacher’s training workshop on holistic development and learning disorders

Jamshedpur: The Rotary Club of Jamshedpur East, Rotary Club of Jamshedpur Midtown, and Rotary Club of Jamshedpur West, all part of Zone 18 in RI District 3250, joined forces to host a half-day teacher’s training interactive workshop titled “Teacher’s Roadmap: Building Future.” This event aimed to raise awareness about holistic development, Learning Disabilities (LD), emotional disorders (ED), and Behavioral Disorders (BD) in children. The workshop was led by Preeti Saini, a Consultant Psychologist, Motivational Speaker, and Author, with AG Anjani Nidhi as the chief guest.
The event commenced with a warm welcome by Aashish Das from the Rotary Club of Jamshedpur Midtown, followed by the ceremonial lighting of the lamp. AG  Anjani Nidhi, in his keynote address, emphasized the importance of self-reflection in our interactions with children rather than placing blame on them for their behavior.
Dr. A Gupta from the Rotary Club of Jamshedpur East introduced the speaker, Rtn Preeti Saini, who delved into the impact of holistic development on students’ academic performance, emphasizing physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being. She stressed the significance of positive role modeling by parents and teachers, sharing illustrative examples and real-life incidents. Additionally, she discussed the management and requirements of gifted students, children with Learning Disabilities, emotional disorders, and Behavioral Disorders. Saini provided valuable tips for nurturing children’s mental health, including the use of praise, non-judgmental attitudes, validation of children’s feelings, setting firm boundaries, employing open-ended questions, teaching emotional regulation, and managing one’s emotions. The session concluded with an eye-opening role-play, offering teachers new perspectives on their students’ experiences.
Certificates of participation were distributed to all teachers by the chief guest, Rtn Anjani Nidhi, and Rtn Nita Agarwal, the president of Rotary Club of Jamshedpur West, expressed gratitude in the vote of thanks.
The workshop drew an enthusiastic group of 68 teachers representing approximately 25 prestigious private and government schools and NGOs in Jamshedpur. Attendees received study materials, including a workbook authored by the speaker. Presidents, Secretaries, and other Rotarians from the host clubs were also in attendance. The program concluded with a communal lunch.
Teachers who attended the workshop expressed their appreciation, indicating their intent to implement the newfound knowledge in their respective schools. Many suggested extending similar workshops to all schools, involving both teachers and parents.
