Jamshedpur, Feb. 6 : In a shocking incident, a 35-year-old tuberculosis patient, jumped from the third floor of MGM Medical College and Hospital in Sakchi, in the wee hours of Wednesday to end his life. The deceased, Sanjay Machua, an unemployed was suffering from tuberculosis from January last year and was depressed over his poor health and financial condition. No suicide note has been found.
MGM Hospital superintendent S N Jha said that the patient was undergoing treatment at the medicine ward for the last few months. “As per our information, he jumped from the third-floor balcony around 1 am. As we came to know we rushed him to the emergency ward, where he was declared dead,” Jha. The patient took the step after he told one of his brothers who was attending him that he was going to toilet.
Machua was a resident of Mango. He was undergoing treatment at the medicine ward of the hospital for more than two months. He has a son (3) and a daughter (5). His wife Pinki, who is suffering from breast cancer, was also admitted to the hospital last week.
As the news spread Sakchi police team reached the hospital to investigate the incident. Sub-inspector of Sakchi police station V K Jaiswal said homeguards on duty at the government hospital first saw Machua when he jumped from the third floor. ” They took him to the emergency where he was declared dead. The patient had sustained injuries on his head and spinal cord. The MGM police outpost has prepared an inquest report. The body would be sent to MGM College in Dimna for post-mortem,” said Jaiswal.
Hospital sources said the family members of the deceased were insisting to hand over the body instead of sending it for post-mortem.
