Jamshedpur: The railway administration is fast-tracking major infrastructure and safety upgrades at Tatanagar Railway Station to modernize the passenger experience. The project introduces additional lifts and escalators across multiple platforms to manage the station’s surging footfall.
Enhancing Vertical Mobility
The Office of the Additional Divisional Railway Manager (ADRM), Chakradharpur, is expanding vertical mobility to ensure seamless movement for commuters. Key developments include:
- Platform 1: A new escalator at the Kharagpur end is nearing completion.
- Platform 5: Workers are installing another escalator at the Kharagpur end to improve access to outer platforms.
- Station-wide Lifts: The administration plans to install more lifts this year, specifically targeting the needs of elderly travelers, persons with disabilities, and those with heavy luggage.
Strict Security and Automated Access
The railways have also tightened security protocols. Authorities recently restricted access to the 1st Lane near the station entrance to prevent congestion and security risks caused by unauthorized “VIP” vehicles.
To modernize traffic control, the administration will install automated retractable bollards. This high-tech system will block unauthorized cars while providing instant access for ambulances and fire engines during emergencies.
Land Management and Anti-Encroachment
Parallel to the station upgrades, the railways have intensified an anti-encroachment drive in the Tatanagar Settlement area. Under the Public Premises (Eviction of Unauthorized Occupants) Act, 1971, the Estate Officer’s court in Chakradharpur is monitoring the reclamation of railway land. While specific details remain confidential under RTI security provisions, officials confirmed the drive prepares the area for future infrastructure expansion.
These combined efforts—infrastructure growth, tighter security, and land reclamation—signal a new era of safety and convenience for the thousands of passengers who use Tatanagar daily.
