Tata Steel Wire Division Cuts Canteen Menu Amid LPG Crisis

Jamshedpur: The industrial LPG shortage has reached the kitchens of Tata Steel Wire Division in Jamshedpur. To manage dwindling gas stocks, company management has implemented an emergency “low-gas” menu, effective March 13, 2026.

Shift to “Quick-Cook” Meals

Management announced that the canteen will prioritize food items that require minimal cooking time and gas consumption until supply chains stabilize. They have appealed to employees for cooperation during this temporary transition.

The New Temporary Menu

The revised schedule replaces labor-intensive meals with simpler alternatives like Poha, Upma, and one-pot rice dishes.

Weekly Temporary Schedule:

  • Monday & Friday: Upma, Poha, and Veg Biryani.

  • Tuesday, Thursday & Sunday: Bread-Jam, Poha, and Veg Pulao.

  • Wednesday & Saturday: Upma and Khichdi.

Meal Portions and Snacks:

  • Breakfast & Evening Snacks: Rotating servings of Upma (200g), Poha (200g), or Bread-Jam.

  • Lunch & Dinner: Veg Biryani, Veg Pulao, or Khichdi served with Raita.

  • Night Shift: Employees will receive a packet of biscuits in place of prepared snacks.

The company has assured workers that the full regular menu will return as soon as gas supplies are restored.
