Jamshedpur: Education is a key part of strategies to improve individuals’ well-being and societies’ economic and social development. Education contributes directly to the growth of national income by improving the productive capacities of the labour force. Bringing a change in the mind-set of the people is important and education plays a vital role in bringing this social change.
Provision of educational opportunities for women has been an important part of the national endeavour since independence. Though these endeavours didnt yield significant results, gender disparities in terms of education still persist in our country, more so in rural areas and among disadvantaged group. Hence eradication of illiteracy among women was realized as a new sense of urgency and seriousness for adult education.

To address this issue of illiteracy and disparity, Urban Services department of Tata Steel plans to provide a sustainable threshold to the women in the non-command/ leasehold areas of Tata Steel by providing them functional literacy through the Adult Literacy Program. Prime target group would be the women of bustee areas of Babudih Lal Bhatta of age group 18-45 years.
In this context, the Adult Literacy Program was launched at Babudih, Lal Bhatta yesterday. About 30 women have enrolled for the class. About 500 bustee people witnessed the function.
