Tata Steel Foundation’s role applauded during state level agriculture fair

Jamshedpur/Ranchi, March 9: Tata Steel Foundation’s (TSF) role in promoting agriculture based rural development and its engagement with communities through the agriculture programmes during COVID 19 was applauded during the recently concluded Eastern region Krishi Mela and Agrotech Kisan Mela organised by the Birsa Agricultural University (BAU) at Ranchi. Earlier, Dhanbad district administration has also credited team Jharia for their good work.

The 3-day long fair, organised by BAU between March 5-7, 2021, was graced by Jharkhand Governor Droupadi Murmu, Ministers in the Jharkhand government along with eminent scientists from various research and educational institutes. The objective of the programme was to showcase various initiatives by the farmers and non-government organisations in agriculture and allied activities. It was a confluence of agriculture institutes (both academic and research), farmers and NGOs working in the development of agriculture in the state.

TSF works towards effecting positive changes in the operational areas of Tata Steel through focussed Interventions in the areas of Livelihood, Health, Education, Sports, Culture and more. In the district of Dhanbad, TSF is working with more than 3500 farmer households to enhance their income levels through a gamut of interventions improving the agriculture production system like input management, pest management, use of renewable energy, capacity building of farmers in the modern methods of farming and establishing farmer institutions in the field.

The farmers in Dhanbad showcased their agriculture produce at the Dhanbad District Kishan Mela organised on February 23,  2021. Anil Hansda, a progressive farmer from the Basaha Village of Tundi block, bagged the 1st prize in the category of Broccoli cultivation and Panna Lal Mahato, a progressive farmer from Upper Dungri village, bagged 3rd prize for wheat cultivation in the district of Dhanbad.
