Sustainable steel in spotlight at Tata Steel’s ICSPB 2026 Conference in Jamshedpur

Jamshedpur, January 29: Tata Steel, in a significant stride towards advancing sustainable steelmaking, today inaugurated the International Conference on Sintering, Pelletizing & Briquetting (ICSPB) 2026 at a hotel in Bistupur. The two-day event, held in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Metals (IIM) Jamshedpur Chapter and the Pellet Manufacturers Association of India (PMAI), gathers global thought leaders, industry experts, and researchers to deliberate on the future of iron ore preparation.

The inaugural function was graced by Chief Guest Chaitanya Bhanu, Vice President, TSJ Operations, Tata Steel, (Chairman ICSPB 2026) who formally declared the conference open. Bhanu, along with Surajit Sinha, Chief Agglomerates and Iron, TSJ, Tata Steel (Co-Chairman ICSPB 2026), Puneet Arya, President PMAI, and Brig Arun Ganguli, IIM Secretary General, participated in the ceremonial lighting of the lamp. Following the ceremony, Bhanu also inaugurated the accompanying exhibition, showcasing innovative technologies and solutions at the conference venue. The proceedings concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks delivered by Vipul Koranne, Tata Steel, (Convenor of ICSPB 2026), setting an optimistic tone for the discussions and collaborations ahead.

The ICSPB 2026 is poised to be a pivotal platform for fostering innovation and collaboration in the critical domain of iron ore preparation, essential for efficient BF-BOF (Blast Furnace-Basic Oxygen Furnace) steelmaking. The hybrid conference will cast a spotlight on emerging trends and technologies, with a strong emphasis on decarbonization, operational optimization, and cost reduction—all crucial elements as the steel industry worldwide accelerates its pursuit of sustainable practices.

Attendees will engage with key themes, including:

  • Advancements in agglomeration technologies
  • Sustainable solutions for emission reduction
  • Navigating challenges in BF & DRI (Direct Reduced Iron) pellet production
  • Exploring new horizons in briquetting for waste utilization and green steel production
